To My Dear and Loving Husband on the First Day of Your Internship

To My Dear and Loving Husband on the First Day of Your Internship [totally channelling Bradstreet right now],
Thou art on public transit at this moment in time in the large metropolis called Los Angeles.
Despite it's name, The City of Angels, we both know there is nothing angelic about it.
The streets are dirty. It is loud. Everything is overpriced; yet, there you are walking down the street it your striking full suit with your new briefcase.
I picture men dressed as if they were in Mad Men.
But I guess in a sense you're a Mad Man, too.
You're working from the bottom up as a marketer.
But you have always been a marketer to me. You marketed your good looks, charm, and incredible charisma from the get go, and I bought the product.
I bought the product and will never think to return it.
You see, it is because you make me one proud wife, especially today.

A Few Months to a Better Me?

A while back, I wrote blog posts weekly about seven weeks to a better me. I had a different goal for every week, and I completed each goal during my seven-week break. This Summer, I again ask myself, how can I be better?

In the last few months, I really considered all the goals that I have for myself. I did set goals for my 21st year, and that is going great; yet, shouldn't we be trying to better every day? Should I not strive to be a little better by the time my head hits the pillow each night? I think I should.

So here is what I'm doing. I'm not going to set strict goals this time around. Well, in the sense that I do not plan on doing a different goal each week. Instead, I'm going to wake up and my best. My best to be the best me, and work on the goals that I already have.

One thing that I am doing, though, as a goal, is Weight Watchers. I did Weight Watchers before our wedding and lost quite a bit of weight ( 10 lbs to be exact), which is a lot for me considering even at my weight right now, I'm still healthy. However, I know that I can be better. I can eat better, and I can exercise more regularly.

I don't have an eating disorder. I know I'm thin, but I need to be healthier, and Weight Watchers is a good way to monitor that. I'm not planning on being the next "Subway Jared" or beating Jennifer Hudson out of her Weight Watchers commercials. I just want to end this summer and feel good about the way that I'm treating my body, husband, family, academics, friends, and well, me.

So here I go. Day one and I ate so healthy I have eleven points left to eat. Veggies and fruits are zero points, and I ate a lot of those today. So I'm thinking frozen yogurt or maybe a HUGE piece of chocolate cake. :)

A Very Proud Aunt, Indeed: Charlotte Monahan

So I have this niece, and she is likely the cutest baby you'll ever meet.
She likes to eat her toes, you see.
Plus, she makes her own songs to sing herself to sleep. Talk about creative.
She likes colors, a lot.
She rolls around like a champ.
Best of all, her smile really does make everyone around her beyond and over the moon happy.
The last few days of getting to be here as her aunt, has made me one proud aunt.
I love being Charlotte's aunt!!
She's the best thing that happened to the Figgat family since well... me ;)

That time that I turned 21 four months ago

My 21st birthday was perfect.
The little celebrations leading up to it were awesome as well.
This big birthday didn't disappoint and truly helped me appreciate all of those who love and care about me.
First we went to Applebee's with Emily and Conrad. Both are long-time friends from our freshman year and definitely some of our best friends.

Then I had an actual, full-out birthday party!! First one since my eighteenth. I was nervous it would be a repeat of my eighteenth where a ton of people show up and then leave right away. It wasn't that way and we had a great time by celebrating with a white elephant. Let me just say this... HILARIOUS.

The Woods and I. We didn't have birthday candles, so we used tea lights. My birthday cake even had my name on it :)

Little Miss Olivia Ball. Love that kid, even wrapped up in streamers!
On my actual birthday we went shopping! We were back in Southern California, so we went to South Coast Plaza. My dad didn't have to work, so he partied with us all day. :)

Later that night we went to Nick's in Laguna Beach with the family. And when I saw family, I got to have both sisters, parents, parent-in-laws, and Chris, Chelsea, and Charlotte. This was the first time I met Charlotte after Chris and Chelsea brought her home from Oklahoma. A perfect birthday present. At Nick's, I got short ribs (FAVORITE).

I loved my birthday celebrations. It topped every other birthday for sure. While it did not involve drinking myself into a stupor like it is for most, it was perfect for me and gave me the opportunity to reflect on the amazing life I have.

One Year Anniversary

March 18 marked our one year wedding anniversary.

We had a good weekend. We slept in two days in a row till roughly noon.

I was sick Saturday and Sunday, but honestly, having a weekend in felt just right.

One year ago we tore up the dance floor
And partied with friends and family.

My stack of gifts from Adam. The gifts included a sequin skirt that I've been dying for, Diet Coke, Reese's egg, The Help on DVD, and an adorable mauve shirt with lace accents. He got Mass Effect 3 (video game).

We did go down to Olive Garden for a date. He took me to Olive Garden the night that he proposed.

We also made corned beef the night before our actual anniversary to celebrate St. Patty's Day.

One year later, I definitely love that husband of mine.

A Quick Update :) Dec 2011-April 2012

Okay, I'll admit it. It has been over a month since I blogged.

I suck.

However, I promise it was merited.

This last semester was the hardest out of my entire college career. I know that I say that every semester, but I promise, each semester gets harder.

Here is a quick update, and I promise to try to get pictures up ASAP.

Adam got an internship! After months of prayer for guidance and an opportunity, my favorite boy got an internship at Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG). This is a HUGE deal, well, because one it is an internship. Also, it is a Fortune 500 company. This means that maybe Adam could have a career there following graduation. His official title is the L.A. Live Marketing intern. BIG DEAL people!

He finished his classes strong and had a good semester. He became the Marketing Manager for Rec Sports at school, so he got to quit his late-night carpet crew job, which was good for the both of us.

As for me, this semester kicked my behind, but I'm happy to finally be home. We are currently in Carlsbad, but will be living with my family in Orange County most of the next five months, as Adam will commute via Amtrak into Los Angeles from there.

I took ballet this last semester, and I think my teacher kind of hated me. Granted, she is eighty years-old and still can dance better than I can, but I think that we ended on a good note. I finished that gosh darn awful Comm course and got to walk away with a few articles published in the school paper and a few new items on the resume.

My health... A ROLLER COASTER. upppp, downnn, upppp, downnnn, downnnn, downnn, corkscrew of high anxiety, loop of sinus infection... You get the idea. My health got a bit out of control, but I'm feeling better now, with the help of a really good doctor. I finished my time as the Language and Letters Academic Discovery Center Office Manager (friggin long title). It was cool because it gave me the opportunity to look back on all that I've done there, and I really will miss my job. I'm hoping to either T.A. in the Fall or just take it easy and try to get into some great grad schools.

Oh and hey, I passed the PRAXIS. I will be certified to teach in most states, with the exception of Virginia. Flippin Virginia. Two points, too short, but it won't get me down because let's face it, I AM NOT A Virginia girl.

Last thing, I chopped my hair!! It's black and short. I love it.
So my hair went from this
 to this
 to this!!

I'm so happy to be back home and spending time with family. However, we are REALLY going to miss our friends back in the Iceberg.

Now I'm done writing, and I'm going to go fly a kite shaped like a dragon with Adam!!
