10 Little Updates

1. I'm teaching at the Madison Middle School this semester a sixth grade natural disasters class. It's easily the hardest, yet most rewarding class I have taken here at BYUI.
2. Adam just got promoted-ish to a paid position as the Marketing Manager for Rec Sports.
3. I'm in the Comm 240 class, so I'm writing a ton of news articles. I'm in charge of covering the Madison School District. Kind of boring...
4. Valentine's was awesome.
5. Our first anniversary is in less than a month!
6. Adam still doesn't have an internship :( so we do not know where we are going to live in a month. Scary. If anyone knows of any internships please email me!
7. I've only been really sick once this semester. It was a sinus infection.
8. We have passes to Targhee and have been enjoying the slopes with our good friends, the Tracys.
9. I'm running out of things to say.
10. I have senioritis.

The end.

My Forever Valentine

Some of the decor from our wedding, but I thought it was appropriate for today :)

Okay, by now everyone is burnt out on reading about Valentines Day. So discontinue if you please, I don't mind.

Adam and I met almost 2 1/2 years ago. Almost a year of that has been spent in marriage. Today, though, I can honestly say that this Valentines Day topped the last two.

Our first, we spent dancing/stargazing in his Grandma's backyard. We exchanged notes and lots of giggles.

Last year we just did cards. Plain and simple. Wasn't great, wasn't bad.

This year, we went all out. It was fun.

Before I got married I was a massive Valentines Day hater. No offense to all of the ex's, but honestly Valentines Day felt like an obligation to me. I was obligated to do something cute and they were obligated to give me something awfully cheesy. I HATED the fake sentiments (including the numerous build-a-bears. Honestly, bears are for little kids) and while I was convinced I was in love with every guy I dated, I don't think I ever understood Valentines Day till today.

I woke up an hour early to cook Adam breakfast in bed. Did I whine? Absolutely not. Would I do that for anyone else? HA! Probably not. But it was in those moments that we sat sharing food-colored-red choco chip waffles and bacon that I found bliss. It was silly, especially since it was before 7 AM, but I was genuinely happy. And for those of you who really know me, you know that can be hard for me.

Later, I found a super cute and perfect childesque card that Adam made. It said "I love you thissssssssssssssss much." Of course it was written on a piece of paper between two hands cut out of scrapbook paper. Then he bought me an mini orchid plant. MY FAVORITE flower. Let's just say I was pleased since I prompted him to get me a bouquet. Little did I know that he knew better than even I did.

I love my husband, and today I fell in love again.

First Valentines as a married couple a success?

Heck yeah.

Love, Evi

Another Mile Marker? Probably Not.

Just a few moments ago, a friend of mine on Facebook pointed out to me that today is the second day of the second week of the second month of the second year of the second decade of the second millennium. Pretty cool. Since it is pretty big day for history and not a very big day for me, I thought it'd be kind of cool to record what I did today... Ya know, for my future kids. lol.

Doing the usual... homework.

I did not go to my first two classes this morning.
I cuddled with my husband and we laughed over nothing.
I went to work and advised roughly three students on how to change their major or graduate.
I taught at the middle school about hurricanes-- it was a total success. :)
I came home to a happy husband.
We started our first load of laundry.
Went to Deseret Industries (Thrift Store) to find a dresser with no luck.
We finished laundry.
I made waffles and eggs for dinner (I really don't like chicken right now).
We watched an episode of "How I Met Your Mother."
I have completed two quizzes tonight and am working on a news article for my newsgathering class.

Uneventful? Yes.

In a way though, that's the way I like it.

Things I Will Refuse To Do When I'm Pregnant

Found here. PS never type "prego" into google. EVER.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an announcement, despite the rumors that arise every now and then.

After reading a lot of blogs lately, I feel like everyone and their mom is pregnant. I'm really not jealous... okay, well part of me is, but right now I am focusing on my bachelors degree. Kill me. AND it is not the right time... Kill us?

Anyways... I digress...

The reason for this post is to make a general list of all of the things pregnant women say that kind of freak me out.

The Top 5 Things Pregnant Women Say That They Shouldn't

Prego... okay people. Prego is an overpriced jar of tomato sauce, not another nickname for your current state of reproduction.

Pregs. What is that? Sounds way too close to the word pegs. YOU ARE PREGNANT PEOPLE. Say it with me... PREGNANT.

Tum-Tum. I'm sorry, just because you are carrying a child does not mean you have to talk like one.

Wee-One. Okay when you call your unborn baby "wee-one." I think of midgets, not fetuses.

Finally...

The Sickness. Initially, I thought this was a one woman effort. Then I began hearing it in multiple location around the blogosphere and in Rexburg. You experience morning sickness, not the sickness. When you say "the sickness" I think of typhoid fever not the unfortunate side effect your pregnancy. Plus, it is really awkward when no one knows your pregnant, they just think you are chubby and you say "Oh boy, the sickness is coming on." Part of me thinks, "Run! She's gonna explode!" The other part of me thinks, "This lady is nutso."

The Top Three Things Pregnant Women Do That They Shouldn't

Make others touch their belly. Very rarely do I want to feel someone else's baby kick. In fact it has occurred twice in my life. Once was my baby sister.

Describe in detail how they are unable to have a normal bowel movement cycle. One syllable for you... EW. I have 8 people in my life who I am willing to discuss how that whole thing is going. 5 are family and the other is a freaky awesome friendship that I have with three different girls. We talk about everything. Honestly, when I'm reading your blog, which used to be about fashion, I REALLY do not care to read about how when you poop it is an accomplishment.

Use the excuse of "eating for two." Correction, you are eating for one and a very small fetus. Honestly, you only need about 500 extra calories a day to sustain the baby in the last trimester, NOT THE FIRST. Don't make me hate you because you are bragging about the extra burger, fries, and Dr. Pepper you got to have because you are "eating for two."

That is all for now.

Noelle, if you are reading this I love you dearly and it is not about you. Haha. I will gladly touch your bump or laugh about the weird things that happen to your body every day until baby boy is born.

Now really, that is all.

Love,
Evi

Whatever You Are, Be A Good One

Photo found here.

Abraham Lincoln immortalized the words, "Whatever you are, be a good one," as the quote has been published time and time again. Tonight it is that lovely string of words that flows through my head. Today as I sat in church, I asked myself, "Who am I? What do I represent? Do I represent whatever it is well?" As I quickly began listing all of my various labels (Mormon, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Employee, Student), good ole Abe's words began to cross my mind. Am I a "good one" in regards to all of my labels and definitions. At the age of 21, I can honestly say that I'm still figuring out who I am. Luckily, I know what I stand for and do not feel I have not been hypocritical in regards to those beliefs for the last three years. When I graduated high school and moved to Idaho for school, I told myself there would be no double fronts here. I would be consistently the same person, whether I was in class, at church, amongst friends, or even alone. There would be no hypocrisy or talking the talk, but not walking the walk. Sometimes this is hard, but as we move into a new year, a new start, I am striving to be a better me in all aspects. I am striving to ask myself everyday is what I am doing consistent with being a good ______? And if it is, kudos for me. If not, it's time to reevaluate. It is impossible to perfect. That is something I learned post-high school as well; however, it is possible to be a little better everyday. And that is something I firmly believe.

Book Review: A Long Way From Chicago

Hi Bloggy Friends! So I fell behind on posting book reviews. So here is book review number 2. It's on Richard Peck's A Long Way from Chicago.

Pages: 192
Published: September 1998
Genre/Themes: Children’s/YA historical fiction

Joey and Mary Alice Dowdel, two city kids, spend the summers in rural Illinois with their grandmother in the summers annually. This book follows their various summer vacation journeys. Grandma is nothing than less than a fireball and has a hilarious personality. She is a fighter. Some of their journeys and adventures include: finding a corpse, Grandma fights the Cowgill boys who were terrorizing the town, strong arms a banker into returning money that is not rightfully his, she even shoots a shotgun in her own living room. Over the years, the adventures with Grandma become more and more crazy and entertaining—they never know what Grandma will do next.
The book is set in the Great Depression era and could easily be used to talk about rural America, the world wars, or even Chicago gangsters.
This book is hilarious and very entertaining. Older kids and Young Adults will love this book.

Rating: ****
Recommended Ages: 9-13 (Adults will enjoy it, too.)
